4A changemaker is someone who is willing to use the knowledge and resources he has been given to make a positive change in his community. With the Mastercard Foundation scholarship, I am able to focus more on my studies without having to worry about financial uncertainty. My mum calls this a blessing. The generosity I have received inspires me to give back. In addition to inspiring many other students here at ASU with my story, I have been able to carry out a number of community service activities and I cannot wait to respond to what the Mastercard Foundation has given me by giving back to my community after graduation.
Mohammed is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar at Arizona State University majoring in Biological Sciences with an emphasis in genetics, cell, and developmental biology. His interest in the subject area naturally stems from his inquisitive nature and inherent desire to not only observe but investigate and find solutions to problems around him. Mohammed has garnered tremendous research experience working as a laboratory technician at the Medical Research Council in the Gambia and as a Special Research Student at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. Mohammed wishes to become an excellent biomedical researcher in the coming years, a capacity he wishes to take back home to the Gambia where it is much needed.
