Phase II: Strengthening Institutional Linkages
In 2016, ASU and the Mastercard Foundation Program entered the second phase of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at ASU. This grant supports 150 Mastercard Foundation Scholars over four cohorts from select partner institutions in Ghana to complete accelerated master’s degrees at ASU through the university’s 3+1+1 international accelerated degree program format.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars, selected during their third year of undergraduate study in two universities in Ghana (Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Ashesi University), will complete the final year of their bachelor’s degree followed by a one-year master’s degree at ASU. Current degree offerings include:
W.P. Carey School of Business
- Master of Science in Business Analytics
- Master of Science in Finance
- Master of Science in Global Logistics
Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering
- Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering
- Master of Science in Civil Engineering
- Master of Science in Computer Science
- Master of Science in Electrical Engineering
- Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering
- Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
- Thunderbird School of Global Management
The scholarship received through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is equivalent to the cost of tuition and fees for the duration of study while attending ASU as a Scholar. It includes travel to and from ASU, student visa-related expenses, housing, food, books, a living stipend and a laptop.
How to join the Program
Mastercard Foundation Scholars must first be nominated from participating partner universities in Ghana to begin the application process.
Mastercard Foundation Scholars are selected based on their demonstrated academic potential, leadership potential and commitment to giving back, and the barriers they face to continuing their education.
Please note: ASU is not offering additional undergraduate or master’s degree scholarships through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at this time. For more information about attending ASU, please visit our International students webpage.
Faculty engagement
Another component of Strengthening Institutional Linkages provides professional development opportunities for professors in Ghana and creates opportunities for learning and collaborative research with ASU faculty. These collaborations will enhance the support provided to Mastercard Foundation Scholars and facilitate mutual learning through faculty exchange and collaborative research.
