The ASU and Mastercard Foundation partnership
About Us
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program is a global initiative aimed at empowering the next generation of transformative leaders. By providing access to higher education for exceptionally talented, service-driven young individuals—primarily from Africa—the program seeks to cultivate leaders equipped to drive positive change in their communities and beyond. At Arizona State University (ASU), the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program offers holistic support to graduate students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements and leadership potential.
The Program focuses on:
- Holistic support — The scholarship covers tuition and fees, health insurance, lodging, food, travel and basic living expenses. Mastercard Foundation Scholars also have access to a range of resources that support their well-being and academic success.
- Transitions — Mastercard Foundation Scholars participate in extensive orientation activities and peer mentorship as they transition to ASU. Throughout their studies they participate in professional development activities including signature workshops and internships that prepare them to pursue their goals upon graduation.
- Leadership development — Mastercard Foundation Scholars develop leadership skills through participation in student organizations, community service and a variety of programs that equip students to work toward positive change locally and globally.
- Giving back — Mastercard Foundation Scholars live out the give-back ethos of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program by leading and participating in community service activities, developing and implementing social ventures, and preparing for impactful careers and civic engagement. They also advance their give-back goals by establishing connections and collaborations within the ASU community, the Scholars Program network and beyond.
The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at ASU is housed in the office of Global Academic Initiatives.
