In 2012, ASU and the Mastercard Foundation entered the first phase of the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at ASU. This partnership supports four cohorts of Scholars to pursue four-year undergraduate degrees in a variety of fields throughout the university. The 120 Mastercard Foundation Scholars selected for the program represent 20 countries across the African continent.

The first cohort of Mastercard Foundation Scholars completed their studies in May 2016. The fourth cohort graduated in May 2019.
