4I envision a world where quality education is accessible to all and public service delivery outwits self-interest for equality and social inclusion.
Abdinur Hussein is an undergraduate teaching assistant and tutor who is working hard to complete his undergraduate degree and an accelerated Masters program in civil engineering at Arizona State University (ASU). With a focus on Structural Engineering and Design, he has used MATLAB, AutoCAD and MS Processing packages to design both a six-story building and a freeway bridge for class projects. Abdinur came to ASU from Kenya through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, which supports students from economically disadvantaged communities across sub-Saharan Africa and equips them as future leaders and change-makers in their home contexts. He intends to do an extensive research in innovative materials that are structurally sound and cheap such as fiber-reinforced polymeric materials to reduce cases of building collapses due to poor quality construction materials in Kenya’s Capital, Nairobi.
