I will use my skills and abilities to improve the secondary and tertiary education systems in South Africa so that graduates develop adequate skills to thrive in the world of work while also learning to understand and value the importance of mental well-being.
Thato is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar and honors student at Barrett, The Honors College, ASU. She recently completed her honors project titled - Reading Motivation and Reading Comprehension: Using iSTART-3 to improve comprehension in South Africa. The project focused on understanding the relation between reading motivation and reading comprehension while also testing the use of an Intelligent Tutoring System to improve reading comprehension. Thato aspires to discover best practices to improve literacy skills in South Africa, using technology and research. She is passionate about improving and designing systems for individuals in educational spaces while using her psychological background to bring about human-centered designs.
