3I want to use my skills and talents to mentor the youth in my country to create for themselves a world that adequately caters for their basic needs including education, health and infrastructure.
Sylvia is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar from Zambia currently majoring in Biochemistry-Medicinal Chemistry at Arizona State University. She is a member of Barrett, the Honors College. Sylvia is passionate about chemistry and the role it plays in the production of medicine and clean energy. Since the year 2016, she has been involved in research that involves synthesizing a number of metal based biocatalysts which provide a mechanism for capturing and storing the sun’s energy as fuel that can be used for transportation or for use when the sun is not available. Her project extends to the use of electrochemistry in the reduction of atmospheric carbon dioxide, which is a key concern of global warming. Sylvia is also minoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice. She is fascinated by how the justice system can function to ensure that all people have access to equal opportunities regardless of social status.
