Amara S. Kamara is a Mastercard Foundation Scholar from Liberia (West Africa), pursuing a bachelor degree in Geological Sciences and a certificate In Geographic Information System (GIS) at the Arizona State University. Because of his immense passion for the environment; Amara is working on pursuing a career as an environmental geologist. His concern about environmental problems has led him to work closely with faculty mentors here at ASU, and his research on wildfire hazards in Arizona focuses on mapping and analyzing trends of wildfires and evaluating the mitigation actions taken to address them. He is an ambassador of the College of Liberal Art and Sciences where he serves as representative for the college at university wide-range events and provides information to prospective students about opportunities available in the college to help them succeed in their studies. Amara does not only care about solving environmental problems, but also passionate about giving back to his community through leadership and volunteerism. Amara is currently doing an internship with the Arizona Department of Water Resources and he is scheduled to graduate in May 2018.
