Being Mastercard Foundation Scholar gives me the opportunity to garner more skills and network with other intellectuals to impart the society positively.

Richmond is currently studying Materials Science and Engineering at KNUST and has been selected as a Mastercard Foundation Scholar through the International Accelerated Degree Program at Arizona State University. He loves to motivate others and is an advocate for human rights and pollution-free environment. He has volunteered with A-zone Network, African Human rights Forum (formerly Duafe Campaign), and Young at Heart. He was a member of KNUST peer counselors where he served on the committee of media and publicity. He was a volunteer research assistant on the project ‘Treatment of pharmaceuticals in wastewater’. With his assistance, the team developed activated carbon from an inorganic precursor. He believes in  creating an enabling environment for youth to acquire both technical/vocational skills and formal education coupled with improved industrialization. This strategy will help in the quest to eliminate poverty and reduce crime in the community. He plans to set up a non-governmental organization with the mission of organizing workshops and training for the youth on how to turn wastes generated in the environment into useful materials.
