I want to collaborate with like-minded people to leverage the abundant renewable energy resources available to Africa's tropical regions and build sustainable, clean, and affordable energy streams for the continent.

Doreen Agyiriwaa Marfo is a STEM enthusiast studying Electrical/Electronic Engineering at Ashesi University and Arizona State University pursuing a master’s degree in Power and Energy Systems. She has a solid foundation in Mathematics and  joined the African Science Academy (ASA) to undertake the accelerated Cambridge International A-Level examinations with a focus on Further Mathematics, Pure Mathematics, and Physics. She is passionate about social change and envisions a sustainable future for all through the blueprint of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); No Poverty, Affordable and Clean Energy and Economic Growth and Parity. In her quest to create the world she envisions, Doreen has engaged in a research project on power flow studies. She concentrated on modeling a robust power flow system to accommodate renewable energy resources such as; solar with reasonable total harmonic distortion (THD), voltage, and frequency fluctuations using MATLAB/Simulink. While at ASU, she will find alternative ways to leverage the abundant renewable energy resources available to the tropical regions in Africa and build sustainable, clean, and affordable energy streams for the continent. Doreen  deeply believes in the code of ethical conduct and embodies transformative leadership. Doreen's service to humanity has propelled her to spearhead and help secure funds for an entrepreneurship project which is aimed at young women in the Northern part of Ghana. She believes such opportunities will create a stable income source for this marginalized group and eventually mitigate rural-urban migration. Doreen has a wide range of experience and has worked with three major multinational companies to date. She worked as a Photovoltaic Installation (PV) intern at Stella Futura, a power company offering green energy solutions. She assisted the PV installation team in sizing and efficiently installing PV panels on rooftops. As a Commercial Operations intern at GE Power, Ghana, she worked with the Gas Power and Power Services team. She developed a merging strategy that will boost operational excellence for both teams and created a database to track Power Installation projects from 2015-2019. Finally, she worked as a Service Assurance Intern at Vodafone Ghana, where she assisted a team in managing the Helios Towers Group (HTG) DC Conversion Project. On top of her work experience, Doreen also leveraged her academic skills to help her peers with practical problem solving strategies by serving as a mathematics tutor at Ashesi University.  Her experience in working with the Coaching and Counselling department at Ashesi University has allowed her to share her journey and guide first-year students in making instrumental decisions in their college life. With the skills, experience, and now educational background to propel her, Doreen hopes to have the acumen to make tactical decisions coupled with imaginative solutions to positively penetrate and impact Africa's  energy sector.
