Being a Mastercard Foundation Scholar has redefined my responsibility. Thus, my duty has been elevated from serving my family to impacting the whole of my community and the world as whole. This responsibility is not a burden, but a privilege to me.

Originally from northern Ghana, Tawkfik is a precisionist and a systematic thinker. He envisions a world where deprived communities like his are connected to other parts of the global world through effective communication systems. This vision has immensely influenced his decision to specialize in the area of signal processing and communication systems within the electrical engineering department of Arizona State University. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, Tawfik worked as an intern with Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, where he was exposed to the transmission and reception equipment in audio and video communications. His passion lies in exploring the concepts and technologies of data communication, control systems and wireless network through scientific research. He is an open-minded person who believes in lifelong learning. He also seeks opportunities to better his skills in effective verbal communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, and personal development. He enjoys sports and comedy.
